Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City has captured the Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction this year. Written by Harvard University sociologist Matthew Desmond, the deeply researched and intensely personal book takes readers inside the lives of eight families dealing with eviction in Milwaukee’s poorest neighborhoods.

“Fewer and fewer families can afford a roof over their head,” Desmond writes. “This is among the most urgent and pressing issues facing America today, and acknowledging the breadth and depth of the problem changes the way we look at poverty.”

If you haven’t had a chance to read the compelling book yet, dig in.
