Nathan D. Taft

Taft, a longtime partner and chief investment officer at Jonathan Rose Cos., died in February. More than just a developer, he was a force in the industry, acting as a mentor to countless young people entering the field and serving on numerous industry boards.

The award aims to honor individuals who demonstrate the qualities that Taft, 51, demonstrated throughout his life and career:

  • A deep care for people at every level—from residents living in affordable housing to coworkers to industry partners;
  • A strong moral compass;
  • A spirit of generosity, humility, and mentorship; and
  • Leadership defined by integrity and perseverance.

“This annual award recognizes someone in the affordable housing industry who carries forward Nathan’s values—who leads with character and compassion and lifts others along the way,” Alter says.

How to Nominate

Please submit a brief nomination (500 words or less) explaining why the nominee should receive the award. Share specific examples of:

  • How they demonstrate leadership through character;
  • How they support others in the industry or within your organization; and
  • Their impact on communities and mission-driven housing

Submit nominations to Donna Kimura, deputy editor of Affordable Housing Finance, at dkimura@questex.com by Sept. 15.

The recipient will be recognized at AHF Live: The Affordable Housing Developers Summit, Nov. 17-19, in Chicago.

The Taft family will receive a letter sharing the honoree’s story and impact, demonstrating that Taft’s legacy continues to shine.

“Let us come together to recognize not just what we build but how we build—with heart, honor, and humanity,” Alter says.
