Star Apartments Shine Bright

1 MIN READ

Star Apartments is eye-catching from all angles.

Designed by renowned architect Michael Maltzan, the Los Angeles development is instantly recognizable with a unique shape that comes from prefabricated modular units placed intricately on a cantilevered podium structure.

“We felt it was important to be innovative and take that step to test modular on a large development,” says Dana Trujillo, housing development director at Skid Row Housing Trust. “We’re always looking for new and better ways to develop.”

The 102-unit development is just as ambitious inside, employing a Housing First approach to serve chronically homeless men and women. It’s among the first housing projects to partner with the Housing for Health Division of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, which is referring individuals and providing service funding. The relationship will grow even deeper when the division opens offices and a health clinic at the building this summer.

The $40 million development has an innovative health and wellness center that serves Star residents and those living at other nearby Trust developments.
